Jan e Vale: the real Defender adventurers
Midland friends! Today we’re going to talk about off-road adventures! We have the pleasure to interview a couple of great adventurers who made their passion a way of life: please welcome Jan and Vale AKA Defender Adventure! Hello Jannis and Vale, thank you first for giving us this interview! Let's start from the beginning: who's hidden behind Defender Adventure? We are Jan and Vale, we both share a passion for traveling and between us have visited nearly 60 of the world’s 195 countries. Vale is originally from Sardinia, she escaped island life at the age of 20 to go and live in London to study English. After a few years, she returned to Italy to start working in the travel industry. The very first day stepping onto the airplane, she knew that discovering the world was her purpose in this life. Jan is (I am) from Australia but I spent most of my years growing up in the UK before moving to Italy 5 years ago for my Job. The world is an ever-changing place and I don’t want to miss a second. What is here today could be gone tomorrow. We have one chance to see the world and I don’t want to waste it. Africa, Europe, Italy... where do your adventures take place?
Where can I begin, from exploring the Aosta Valley to watching sunsets on Easter Island in the middle of the Pacific, we definitely have no boundaries to our adventures. We are very lucky to have traveled all over the world. However, an adventure can take place anywhere, it doesn’t have to cost a lot and you don’t have to travel far. Get out and explore what is around you and I’m sure it will be pleasantly surprised what this world has to offer. We have a long list of places we want to visit, but things are currently on hold due to the travel restrictions in place. We really hope to get back on the road before too long. How did your passion for travel come about and why did you choose Midland? We are lucky enough to travel every day in our jobs, we have experienced some incredible places in this world but there is still so much to explore. We travel a lot by air, but to really get a feel of the place, we love to be on the road in our Land Rover Defender. You really get to see a lot of unexplored places by slowing things down and traveling by road rather than air. Midland’s mission of Moving Communication creating tools to help communicate on the road put them at the top of our list as communication providers. Anyone that has spent a lot of time on the road will know the importance of having a reliable communication system and Midland was able to provide us with exactly that.
Which Midland product do you think every off-road lover should always have with him/her? Midland has a whole host of products that are suitable for communications whilst out off-roading or overlanding. You will always be able to find something that best suits your needs. For us though, a combination of the Alan 48 Pro and the Alan 42 Multi gives us the perfect setup for a whole host of situations. We have our Alan 48 Pro mounted in the Defender, it’s always within reach and is perfect for when we are traveling in a convoy. We love the digital squelch function, which always gives us crystal clear audio. Our Alan 42 Multi is a very versatile unit. Having a rechargeable battery pack and being handheld, it gets used for all sorts of things. It’s great to give to an extra vehicle joining your convoy, but we mainly use it when winching. In combination with our Alan 48 Pro, we can always have a clear path of communication from the vehicle to the winch operator. When bogged down in the middle of nowhere, you can’t afford to make mistakes but Midland has us covered. How does Midland help you live your Off-Road Dream?
