The Italian gold medal in skeet at Paris 2024 is still warm, but it's already time to look to the future. A future that for Italy definitely has the colors of one of the three metals because when it comes to precision targeting, Italian athletes are a reference point at a global level, even in long range F-Class precision targeting.

F-Class is a precision targeting discipline with rifles, at canonical distances of 700-800-900 meters. This sport is divided into two categories: FTR (equivalent to an entry level) and Open (more accurate and precise). This specialty has been practiced since the early 2000s, but it arrived in Italy in 2012 and the first Italian championship was held in 2013.

At the Italian level, it is a discipline that still has ample room for growth but is carving out its own space in international competitions, particularly in the European and World Championships.

The Italian national FOpen team participating in the Europeans in Surrey that will take part in the next 2026 World Championships, has chosen to integrate Midland Teams M15 Headset into their equipment. These are intercom headset that isolate from noise and allow staying in contact with the rest of the team: the national team captain Gianfranco Zanoni told us how communication takes place during the competition.

Intercom Headset for Long Range Precision Targeting

The F-Class discipline is essentially a team game: at the World Championships, each team is composed of 8 competitors, while at the Europeans of 4 competitors. There is also a wind coach who studies the weather conditions and decides the corrections on the optics, and a Register Keeper who records the points. The difficulty of this discipline lies precisely in the ability to read the wind and in correcting the optics for precision targeting. This makes the collaboration between the wind coach and the competitor in turn more important than ever, as they must communicate constantly during the competitions.

Thus, during the competitions, the team composed of the competitor in turn, the wind coach, and the controller, must always stay in contact in this case, the essential tool are the intercom headset, because they isolate from noises and allow clear, fast, immediate communications.

The Italian national team uses sets of 4 Teams M15 Midland Headset, which with Mesh technology, connects teams of up to 15 people and has integrated the function of eliminating external noise.

Mesh technology allows active, hands-free, and full-duplex communication, which are essential features for those who practice this discipline. Moreover, the Teams M15 Headset are water-resistant and were used by the Italian F-Class national team during the last Europeans, brilliantly overcoming difficult weather conditions such as rain and wind.

At the European Championships, the Italian team was divided into Italy Red and Italy Green with 4 competitors each team found excellent placements compared to their opponents, and now all that remains is to work in view of the next world championships, where the two teams will unite into a single national team. At Midland, we are ready to support the Azzurri with the M15 headset and to cheer for their victory!
