Charging Solutions for Intercoms for Long Trips: The Accessories
Every motorcyclist reaches a point where they organize the big trip of the year, and there's nothing more exciting than dedicating yourself to the preparations.
Before revving the engine and letting the road guide you, it's essential to pay attention to some details that can make your trip easier and more comfortable. Among these is definitely preparing the intercom.
Midland intercoms are easy to use and you can customize, set, and manage them directly from the Midland Connect app. However, before embarking on a long journey, we recommend following some simple tips to avoid running out of battery halfway and losing the ability to communicate with your travel companions, listen to the radio, or follow the navigator's instructions.
First of all, remember to download all available firmware and update your intercom to avoid any issues. Next comes the battery, and here are our tips.
Midland Intercom Battery Maintenance
Generally, Midland intercoms have a battery life of up to 23 hours (except for the BTGO Uni and BT Mini, which have a battery life of 7-8 hours).
However, to preserve the battery capacity over the years, it is necessary to follow some charging and storage precautions. The first tip we want to give you is not to keep the battery discharged for a long time, even during the winter period if you don't use the intercom. This is because it could gradually decrease the battery's ability to hold a charge.
Recharging your intercom every 2-3 months, even when not in use, is definitely a good practice.
Additionally, it is very important to always use compatible chargers and cables because using a charger that is too powerful can damage the battery of your intercom, potentially leading to a short circuit. At the same time, weather conditions affect charging times, so if you're planning a trip to very cold areas, keep in mind that your intercom will discharge more quickly and take longer to recharge.
Finally, don't wait for the battery to reach zero before recharging it: it's better to perform shorter and more frequent recharges, which will help prolong its life.
Obviously, even if it may seem obvious, always remember to recharge your intercom before each new departure, so you can use it for the guaranteed 23 hours of autonomy without problems and for 7-8 hours in the case of the BTGO Uni and BT Mini.
On long trips, 23 hours of autonomy may seem like a lot, but they don't cover the entire duration of the journey when considering conversations between rider-passenger or between motorcycles, listening to music, and using it for navigator instructions. So, how to manage the battery while on the road?
We have created various accessories compatible with all our intercoms.
Accessories for Your Midland Intercom Battery
When you purchase a Midland intercom, inside the box you will already find the USB charging cable, which you can conveniently take with you on the trip and is the main tool for charging your intercom (just pay attention to the voltage of the charger if you go to a country with a different voltage from Italy).
However, there are some accessories that can make your life easier on the road:
MP-DIN USB CAR LIGHTER, a mini-din adapter that connects to the cigarette lighter socket and allows you to charge up to 3 devices simultaneously via USB. It's very convenient because you can charge your intercoms directly from the motorcycle;
MP-DIN USB-C, a power adapter with a din socket and USB plug equipped with DIN PLUG ISO 4165, known as the BMW accessory connector;
MP-H 2 USB Pro, a kit that can be installed on the handlebar for simultaneous charging of 2 devices, is equipped with a 1.5-meter cable.
And if you lose the included USB charging cable? No problem because you have all the official accessories for your Midland devices at your disposal.
